Darryl R. Zdanavage, 69, of Berwick, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in the loving arms of his wife and children, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born in Nanticoke on June 28, 1954, he was a son to the late Tony “Doc” and Esther Viola (Rinehamer) Zdanavage.
Darryl was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1972, and continued his education at Luzerne County Community College. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1972-1975. On November 10, 1973, he wed the love of his life, the former Mary E. Ackerman. Darryl was a longtime employee of PPL, from which he retired in 2008. He had also worked at Vreeland’s Harley Davidson and, after retirement, at the Merrick Group. He had a deep faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and was a member of LCBC Church, attending the Columbia-Montour Campus. He enjoyed target shooting and was member of the NRA and the Nescopeck Hunting and Rifle Club. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Darryl enjoyed classic cars, camping, the Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR, and collecting and repairing antique clocks. He found great joy spending time with his beloved family, including his dogs. Darryl maintained a positive attitude and determination to play the hand that he was dealt, even after his first “widow maker” heart attack in 2006. He is an inspiration to those he leaves behind.
Surviving Darryl are his wife of 50 years, Mary E. (Ackerman) Zdanavage; children: Jason Zdanavage of Manchester, PA, and Ashley Zdanavage of Berwick; brother, Dennis Zdanavage and wife, Marcy, of Berwick; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
